Precious stones have always captured the imagination. Over time, however, they have taken on a new meaning for me, becoming less about adornment and more about intention.
Originally created for LeBron James as a one-of-one study, Stone of Light is not only a collection but a statement: an exploration of what becomes possible when eyewear meets high-end craftsmanship. We explore this evolution, weaving delicate technique into an elevated concept. The design examines how precious stones can be integrated into eyewear architecture with discretion in their placement and respect for their interaction with form and light.
Embedded at the temples, green sapphires are hand-set within 18K gold rims and incorporated into a newly developed temple design. Set by Vernet Dray in discreet Lyon workshops known for creating exceptional pieces for Place Vendôme houses, the stones become focal points that capture and release small beams of radiance. What interests me now is not the ornament of the stones, but their dialogue with light.
The temple tips are adorned with hammered, electroplated white gold endpieces, extending this conversation through texture and reflection. The frames are crafted with a precision metal-rim construction integrated into the lens. A slender, nearly invisible metal line shapes the frame. The temples draw inspiration from the art deco architectural facades of my neighborhood in Paris, grounding the design in structure and context.
Bronze is chosen as the structural foundation for its balance of strength, resilience, and resistance to environmental stress, allowing the frame to withstand heat, humidity, and everyday wear while retaining its integrity over time. Each frame is finished in 5μ of certified electroplated gold. A whisper of gold—enough to illuminate, just shy of full-blown splendor.
